Book of Mormon: Day 14: Write the Things of God

1 Nephi 6:3-4

3 And it mattereth not to me that I am
particular to give a full account of all
the things of my father, for they
cannot be written upon these plates,
for I desire the room that I may write
of the things of God.

4 For the fulness of mine intent is that
I may persuade men to come unto
the God of Abraham, and the God of
Isaac, and the God of Jacob, and be
saved.

When I first read these verses, I kind of felt sad for his father. That there was going to be no record of him, or his life. But the end of verse three and all of verse four explain it so much better. Nephi’s purpose in keeping a record is so that he can write the things of God. That he may “persuade men to come unto the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, and be saved.” (Note that the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is Christ) Nephi wants us to know of Christ. He wants us to know of the glorious blessings we can receive by partaking of the Lord’s teachings.

It brings me peace to know that Christ and His teachings were put first in Nephi’s life. Now that isn’t to say because we don’t write down the things of our Lord and Savior, or share every image on Instagram, or Twitter or Facebook, that we don’t put Christ first. We most definitely do in many different circumstances. People show it in different ways, and there is nothing wrong with that. I am grateful to Nephi, for putting the things of God on these plates that I may learn from them, and apply them to my life.

I love Nephi, he is one of my very favorite prophet’s in the Book of Mormon. I feel so connected to his teachings and life experiences. He is humble, and a very valiant servant of God. He is a great example and his teachings of Christ have really strengthened my testimony. I love that, in when Nephi goes through a trial (usually a different situation every time), he always turns to God in prayer. He always prays.

Nephi has helped strengthen my testimony to write in my journal more. To record my thoughts and feelings that I experience while feeling the Spirit. Whether that be from temple attendance, a still small voice in the car while driving, or saying a prayer with my family. It is important that we share these experiences, that they may serve the next generation, and bring (or persuade) men to come unto Christ, and be saved.
