Week 3: We have come to worship him

Principles to Ponder

  • Humility
  • Baptismal Covenants
  • Personal & Family Revelation

Humility

Luke 2:1-7
The Savior was born of lowly circumstances. What can this teach you personally about your own circumstances and path in this life? Does knowing who you truly are help to shift your perspective of your circumstances?

Baptismal Covenants

At Baptism We Covenant with the Lord to:

  1. Come into the fold of God (become a member of the Church of Jesus Christ).
  2. Be called his son or daughter (take upon me the name of Christ).
  3. Bear others’ burdens, that they may be light; mourn with those that mourn; and comfort those in need of comfort (help others).
  4. Stand as a witness of God at all times and in all things and in all places (testify of Christ and set a good example at all times).
  5. Serve God and keep his commandments.

Luke 2:8-20
What do we learn about witnessing from the angels & shepherds?

Luke 2:25-35
Simeon had been given a promise by the Holy Ghost that he would not taste death before his eyes had seen the Lord’s Christ. What does the spirit teach you of your role in preparing for the second coming?

Luke 2:36-38
In what way does Anna’s sweet praise and testimony of the Christ child help you understand how influential you can be to those around you?

Matthew 2:1-12
Coming from the East, because of the Star, the Wise Men came to Jerusalem seeking the Messiah. What can these wise men teach you about the importance of knowing the signs to look for as well as seeing them once they have arrived?

Personal & Family Revelation

This 2012 General Conference Address from Richard G. Scott is a fantastic read/listen.

There are some practical principles that enhance revelation. First, yielding to emotions such as anger or hurt or defensiveness will drive away the Holy Ghost. Those emotions must be eliminated, or our chance for receiving revelation is slight.

In what ways can you recognize the Spirit guiding you through Revelation and Inspiration? Have you written these down in your journal to share with your loved ones or recount later on?
