I, Nephi… having seen many afflictions in the course of my days…
1 Nephi 1:1
We all experience adversity. Our faith, our decisions, our professional positions, nothing can prevent us from the hard of life. Everyone’s hard is different. Be it family life, divorce, cancer, other illnesses, school, etc…. Everything is different. And everything is hard.
The biggest tool we have is trust.
Trust in God.
The prophet Joseph Smith said the following:
“The power of the Gospel will enable us to stand and bear with patience the great affliction that is falling upon us on all sides.”
“My only hope and confidence is in that God who gave me being. … He is my comforter, and he forsaketh me not.”
“Having confidence in the power, wisdom, and love of God, the Saints have been enabled to go forward through the most adverse circumstances.”
“Stand fast, ye Saints of God, hold on a little while longer, and the storm of life will be past, and you will be rewarded by that God whose servants you are.”
Those quotes give me such hope. Hope that I (that we!) can make it through whatever life throws at us, whatever our hard is. Hope that with God’s help and grace I can weather the storm with a patient and humble heart. Hope that after that storm will come everlasting peace. Hope that one day we will eventually stand at the right hand of our Lord and Savior, and He will welcome us home.
