Today’s Reading: 1 Nephi 13:1-16
5 And the angel said unto me: Behold the formation of a church which is most abominable above all other churches, which slayeth the saints of God, yea, and tortureth them and bindeth them down, and yoketh them with a yoke of iron, and bringeth them down into captivity.
This is a tricky topic, I won’t lie to you. I prayed fervently over how to approach this topic, while thoughts of sports, illnesses, vocations and just about any activity in the world dancing through my mind. It is so easy for anything we choose to focus our attentions on to become that ‘great and abominable church’ that the scriptures speak of. Which is why it is even more important that we pray often, read our scriptures daily, attended the temple whenever we can and continually invite the spirit of God to be with us. So that we can drown out the loud voices from the great and spacious building beckoning us to be distracted and to turn our attentions away from those things the Lord would have us do.
“The titles church of the devil and great and abominable church are used to identify all churches or organizations of whatever name or nature—whether political, philosophical, educational, economic social, fraternal, civic, or religious—which are designed to take men on a course that leads away from God and his laws and thus from salvation in the kingdom of God.” Bruce R. One day at a time, one step at a time, we can make those choices that lead us closer to Eternal Salvation.
