Book of Mormon: Day 182: Don’t Judge A Book By It’s Cover

Today’s Reading: Alma 16

14 And as many as would hear their words, unto them they did impart the word of God, without any respect of persons, continually.

Have you ever looked at someone and thought that there is no way they would ever be interested in the church or maybe you have heard the phrase, don’t judge a book by it’s cover?

I love the part in this block of scripture where it states ‘without any respect of person’. They went about teaching the word of God to everyone regardless of their looks, how they dressed, how they acted, and where they lived. They didn’t let differences in opinion get in the way of teaching all of God’s children.

Over the last year my admiration for missionaries has increased. I am impressed with the desire and the courage young men and women have to go out into the world and teach the gospel. They are no respecters of persons as they go door to door and as they act on the referrals they are given; as well as the inspiration from the Lord they receive on a daily basis.

Never judge a person on their appearance or where they live. Just because someone has tons of tattoos, piercings, or dresses differently than you do, doesn’t mean they won’t ever be interested. Just because someone lives in a small worn down house doesn’t mean they are yearning for a desire to belong to something bigger. Just because someone looks like they have it all, doesn’t mean that aren’t looking for a bigger why.

It’s time to stop judging people and start acting more like brothers and sisters and talk to ‘as many as {will} hear {our} words.’
