Book of Mormon: Day 59: Here Am I; Send Me

Today’s Reading: 2 Nephi 16-18

2 Nephi 16: 8  Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?  Then I said: Here am I; send me.

Do you ever wonder who you were in pre-mortal life?  Have you pondered about the role you played there and the promises that you made?  Have you questioned if you are keeping those promises now and what more the Lord has for you to do?  Have you queried if your role on this earth and in your current circumstance is important?  Let’s look to Isaiah for some guidance.

The Lord asks, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?”  Isaiah’s response is beautiful and simple, “Here am I; send me.”  He then learns some things that he will have to do here on this earth, including testifying to those who will reject his message.

It strikes me that Isaiah learned this response from none other than the great Jehovah Himself.  In the pre-mortal realm, God the Father asked, “Whom shall I send?” and the Savior humbly replied, “Here am I; send me.” (Abraham 3:27)  Our entire salvation rested on Him fulfilling His calling and we will be eternally thankful that He did indeed drink the very last drop of that bitter cup.

Here Am I Send Me- Savior

Your role here is important as well.  Consider this statement from Elder M. Russell Ballard,

If you are wondering if you make a difference to the Lord, imagine the impact when you make commitments such as the following:

“Father, if you need a woman to rear children in righteousness, here am I, send me.”

“If you need a woman who will shun vulgarity and dress modestly and speak with dignity and show the world how joyous it is to keep the commandments, here am I, send me.”

“If you need a woman who can resist the alluring temptations of the world by keeping her eyes fixed on eternity, here am I, send me.”

“If you need a woman of faithful steadiness, here am I, send me.”

Between now and the day the Lord comes again, He needs women in every family, in every ward, in every community, in every nation who will step forward in righteousness and say by their words and their actions, “Here am I, send me.”

My question today is, Will you be one of those women?”

“Here am I; Send Me,” such a simple answer.  What about us?  There are so many opportunities to respond like Isaiah and the Savior.  When we serve in callings, when we listen with empathy, when our hands offer genuine relief we too are saying, “Here am I; send me.”  Who knows?  Perhaps we already uttered those exact words in a time we can’t remember and have the privilege of fulfilling them now.
