Book of Mormon : Day 340: Hope As An Anchor

Today’s Reading: Ether 12

This chapter has so much goodness in it. Each time I read it, something new jumps out at me. Isn’t that the beauty of scripture? We can gain new knowledge each time we read, no matter how many times we have read before. That truly is how we gain line upon line knowledge.

As I was reading through this passage of scripture recently, verse 4 really stood out to me.

“Wherefore, whoso believeth in God might with surety hope for a better world, yea, even a place at the right hand of God, which hope cometh of faith, maketh an anchor to the souls of men, which would make them sure and steadfast, always abounding in good works, being led to glorify God.”

This world is becoming an increasingly scary place, but this scripture promises us that if we believe in God, we can hope for a better world, and I find so much comfort in that. We can use hope as an anchor in our families, in our homes, and in all aspects of our lives.

My middle name is Hope, and because of that, I have always been drawn to verses with the word “hope” in them, and this one is no different. As we have hope in God, as we hope for a better world, we are placing our anchor down into the stable foundation of Christ and His Gospel. As we hope, we will be “sure and steadfast” instead of being tossed to and fro on the waves of this fallen world.

As we keep our eyes fixated on the Savior and all that He stands for, we can indeed hope for a better world, with Him.

I know this is true. When Christ is at the center of my life, when I use my hope as an anchor, my hope in Him, I find that I am more stable and steady in the day-to-day demands and stresses of life. And I know it can be the same for you, too.
