Book of Mormon: Day 307: Greater Things

Today’s Reading:  3 Nephi 26:1-10

And when they shall have received this, which is expedient that they should have first, to try their faith, and if it shall so be that they shall believe these things then shall the greater things be made manifest unto them.

10 And if it so be that they will not believe these things, then shall the greater things be withheld from them, unto their condemnation.

I am 38 years old and I am a college student.  I went back to school this September through the Pathway program that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and BYU-Idaho have come together to create.  It is truly an inspired program and such a blessing in the lives of so many people, mine included.  In the Pathway program, you are required to take a religion class during each of the 3 semesters you are in the program. (A religion class?  Twist my arm.  Okay, if you insist.)  The religion class that I am enrolled in for this semester is entitled “Teachings and Doctrine of the Book of Mormon” and I am seriously in love with this course.  It is an intense study of the teachings of the Book of Mormon.  I spend a lot more time on the assignments for this class then I do on the assignments in my General Studies class and that’s not a bad thing.  My testimony of the Book of Mormon has grown so much in just a couple of months and I can feel the promise that is in verse 9 coming true for me.

And when they shall have received this (the teachings in the Book of Mormon), which is expedient that they should have first, to try their faith, and if it shall so be that they shall believe these things then shall the greater things be made manifest unto them.

Greater things.  What does that mean?  What are these greater things that are mentioned in this verse?  Well, I think that is up to you and the Lord to decide what those greater things will be for you.  It may be questions answered pertaining to gospel doctrine, or maybe how to be a better parent, or how to overcome a trial in your life; but whatever those greater things are, they will be exactly what you need to increase your testimony of the Savior and draw closer to Him.

Studying the Book of Mormon can bring greater peace, greater ability to overcome trials, greater love for your family and your fellowmen, and most importantly, greater love for your Savior, Jesus Christ.  I know that this is true because I have seen it in my own life and I know that it can happen for you too.  But in order for it to happen, you have to read the Book of Mormon!  You have to study the words that are found in it’s divine pages.  I promise you that as you do this with a faithful and willing heart, you will be blessed with the greater things that the Lord has in store just for you.

“It is not just that the Book of Mormon teaches us truth, though it indeed does that.  It is not that the Book of Mormon bears testimony of Christ, though it indeed does that, too.  But there is something more.  There is a power in the book which will begin to flow into your lives the moment you begin a serious study of the book.  You will find greater power to resist temptation.  You will find the power to avoid deception.  You will find the power to stay on the straight and narrow path…When you begin to thirst after those words, you will find life in greater and greater abundance.” -Ezra Taft Benson

And now a challenge for you.  I am willing to bet that if you are reading this post, you are already studying the Book of Mormon.  If this is the case, keep pressing forward!  Study your little heart out.  However, maybe you have stumbled upon this post and you’re not sure why you are even reading it.  I know why you are reading it.  You are reading this post because it’s time.  It’s time for you to begin a serious study of the book and I want to help you do that.  Before you can begin a serious study of the book, you will definitely want your own copy and there are multiple ways for you to obtain your own copy.

  1.  Click here to fill out the form on Mormon.org and arrange to have one delivered to you for free.
  2. Click here to buy it on Amazon.
  3. Click here to read and study it on Lds.org (although there is nothing like marking up an actual book of scripture so Option #1 is probably your best option.)

Greater things, my friends.  Greater things will come into your life when you study this book with divine origins.  It is another testament of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and it will change your life.
