Book of Mormon: Day 290: In remembrance

Today’s Reading: 3 Nephi 18:1-14

7. And this shall ye do in remembrance of my body, which I have shown unto you….

The sacrament is one of my favorite things about Sunday’s.
It is a rare occasion when I am allowed to sit quietly and reflect during Sacrament meeting – allow me to paint the picture for you.

Three rambunctious children, coming straight out of two hours of primary with some kind of snack, maybe, lesson and wiggle removal activity. Rushing into sacrament meeting where they dive unceremoniously into the Sunday bag tossing aside the carefully stacked coloring books, quiet books, activity books and silent toys in search of the granola bar or bag of gold fish they know is lingering at the bottom. Once their snack is secured they climb on my lap, off my lap, around and on top of each sibling, on the hubby, off the hubby, try fervently to push past the hubby with cries of ‘I need to go to the bathroom’, someone pulls someone else’s hair, then gives a kiss to make up for it – oh wait, never mind they were giving kisses because they know kisses annoy the other person… and so on. There have been tears shed, both mine and theirs, during sacrament meeting, stern looks given, both theirs and min, and consequences earned.
Yet, it is still my favorite thing about Sunday.
Why is that?

It goes back to the basic essence of the gospel; love, service, consecrated time and wholesome activities.
To me the sacrament is love.

It’s a time to actively – even while physically wresting with a pre-K aged child – engage with the atonement in a very tangible way. It is a time to reflect, remember and engage with the Lord. Much like fasting and temple service it is a consecrated activity that I can tap into on a regular basis. And it is a way of showing my love for the savior and his sacrifice for me.

Another thought on the sacrament. There are so many times in my life when I feel like I have been very clearly led down a specific path and have never fully understood why. I think this line from verse 10 of this passage helps clarify why:

…and this doth witness unto the Father that ye are willing to do that which I have commanded you.

I believe that sometimes we are led in certain directions simply as an opportunity to witness unto the Father that we are willing to do that which we have been commanded.

In what way are you showing your love for the savior today?

What have been some times where you have been commanded and followed/acted?
