Book of Mormon: Day 227: In Memory Of

Today’s Reading: Alma 46

12: “In memory of our God, our religion, and freedom, and our peace, our wives, and our children.”

This whole chapter has always been a favorite of mine, but oh my, does it hit home lately. With the upcoming presidential election in the United States, and just other moral issues that have been hot topics, well, things just seem to be getting uglier and uglier for our amazing country.

While we cannot predict what the future will hold, nor can we force our beliefs upon other people, we can still stand up for our beliefs. We might not be waving a literal flag, but we can shine our light, and live our beliefs. We need to do this. We need to stand for what we believe in for our religious freedom, for our families, for our God.

While studying this chapter, I came across an amazing (and slightly terrifying) talk given by President Spencer W. Kimball in 1979. In it he reminds us of the promises that God has made regarding America, but he also reminds us that if we do not keep his commandments, His promises will not be kept, and America will fall. Towards the end of the talk he says this:

I fully believe that we can turn things around in America if we have the determination, the morality, the patriotism, and the spirituality to do so.

To that I say “amen”.

Our country is such a special country. And it is my hope that we can keep America great and blessed.

I hope we can keep our title of liberty flying high, that we can stand up for our morals when so many are giving them up, and that we can have the determination to keep this country great — for our families.
