Book of Mormon: Day 193: Who Can Glory Too Much in the Lord?

Today’s Reading:  Basically all of Alma 26

16 Therefore, let us glory, yea, we will glory in the Lord; yea, we will rejoice, for our joy is full; yea, we will praise our God forever. Behold, who can glory too much in the Lord? Yea, who can say too much of his great power, and of his mercy, and of his long-suffering towards the children of men? Behold, I say unto you, I cannot say the smallest part which I feel.

Ammon took the words right out of my mouth.

I cannot say the smallest part of which I feel about my Heavenly Father and His only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ.  I cannot stop thinking about how I can talk about them to my family, friends, and neighbors.  I cannot glory too much in the Lord.  He is my Savior and my Redeemer and I will praise His name forever.

Chapter 26 is one of my favorite chapters in the Book of Mormon.  In my hard copy of the Book of Mormon, I would say that 80% of the verses in Alma 26 scream with color from the markings that I have made.  The chapter heading itself sits in between two giant stars.  It is one that cannot and should not be missed.  There is so much wisdom to glean from what Ammon is telling us!  If Chapter 26 were a General Conference talk, then Ammon is the Elder Holland of the Book of Mormon.  You cannot help but feel super charged emotions when you study the words of this great and humble man of God.  Every time I read through this chapter I find myself having a hallelujah party in my heart.

Blessed be the name of our God; let us sing to his praise, yea, let us give thanks to his holy name, for he doth work righteousness forever. -Verse 8

YES!  I am with you 100%!  Blessed be the name of our God!

…I do not boast in my own strength, nor in my own wisdom; but behold, my joy is full, yea, my heart is brim with joy, and I will rejoice in my God.  Yea, I know that I am nothing; as to my strength I am weak; therefore I will not boast of myself, but I will boast of my God, for in his strength I can do all things…- Verses 11-12

I will rejoice in my God!  It is in his strength that I can do all things.

In verse 22, we find the perfect formula for finding God’s truth, which is the truth that we should all be seeking.

Yea, he that repenteth and exerciseth faith, and bringeth forth good works, and prayeth continually without ceasing–unto such it is given to know the mysteries of God…

  1. Repent
  2. Exercise faith
  3. Serve, serve, serve
  4. Pray continually–never ceasing

Four simple steps that bring about a mighty change of heart and unlock the door of truth.  Are you stumbling about in darkness?  Are you having a crisis of faith or maybe a just a mini crisis?  Do you want to gain a stronger testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ?  I guarantee you that if you will follow these four steps as Ammon has instructed, you will find the light.  You will see the truth.  You will unlock the portion of the mystery that God needs you to know at this time in your life.  And then you will have the choice to accept what God has taught you through the Holy Ghost or reject it.  But God will always provide you with the opportunity to choose.

Now if this be boasting, even so I will boast; for this is my life and my light, my joy and my salvation, and my redemption from everlasting wo.  Yea, blessed is the name of my God…Verse 36

If this is boasting, then I am with Ammon, I will boast all the livelong day…

The Lord is my Light.  He is my joy and my salvation.  He is my Savior and Redeemer.  It is through His grace and strength that I can do all things.  Being His disciple is hard work, but it is the only work that brings me the fullness of joy that I want in my life.  His joy is eternal and I am not in this thing we call life for temporary pleasure.  There is so much more.  The picture is so much brighter and bigger than we have eyes to see or minds to comprehend.  The only way that I will be able to receive the exaltation and complete fullness of joy that I seek, is to follow Him, no matter what.

Who Can Glory Too Much in the Lord?  Certainly not Ammon, and as for myself?  I will go to the grave defending Him, honoring Him, and giving Him the glory.

Christ is the only answer
