Book of Mormon: Day 190: Believe

Today’s Reading: Alma 23:11-24:7

6 And as sure as the Lord liveth, so sure as many as believed, or as many as were brought to the knowledge of the truth, through the preaching of Ammon and his brethren, according to the spirit of revelation and of prophecy, and the power of God working miracles in them—yea, I say unto you, as the Lord liveth, as many of the Lamanites as believed in their preaching, and were converted unto the Lord, never did fall away.

7 For they became a righteous people; they did lay down the weapons of their rebellion, that they did not fight against God any more, neither against any of their brethren.
(emphasis added)

When I first read this block of scripture, I was astounded to think that none of the Lamanites who believed and were converted to the gospel ever fell away from it. They had so much faith and belief in what they were taught that they laid down their weapons and fought no more. They knew with all their heart that what they were being taught was true!

Oh to have the faith of those Lamanites!! Can you imagine how that would feel? I don’t know about you but there are times that I struggle. Thoughts like, ‘is this really true’ or ‘how can that have really have happened’ or ‘I don’t know if I want to do this anymore’ have all popped into my head at one time or another. In our day and age it’s not easy staying strong to the Lord’s will or hold fast to your testimony. So many things out there make you question. But I firmly believe, that during those times, we need to know with all our hearts that the gospel of Jesus Christ is true. It’s in those times, that no matter how much we don’t want to, we need to sit down, read our scriptures and pour our hearts out in prayer.

We come to this world in many colors, shapes, sizes, and circumstances. We don’t have to be rich, tall, thin, brilliant, or beautiful to be saved in the kingdom of God–only pure. We need to be obedient to the Lord Jesus Christ and keep His commandments. And we can all choose to do that regardless of where we live or what we look like. {i}

I love that quote from Elder Clate W. Mask Jr. Basically, it doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter your past, present or future circumstances. Whether you were born into the church or a convert, all of us go through our own conversion process. We too can be like the Lamanites and “believe in their preaching, and {be} converted unto the Lord, {and} never… fall away.
