Book of Mormon: Day 178: According To The Will Of The Lord

Today’s Reading: Alma 14: 1-17

13 And Alma said: Be it according to the will of the Lord. But, behold, our work is not finished; therefore they burn us not.

I am a planner. I have been all my life. And when things don’t go according to plan, I’m not exactly a happy camper.

I had my whole life planned out. I had an idea of the kind of man I wanted to marry (clean cut, RM, blah blah blah) and when I was going to get married (age 19) and how many kids I wanted (3 before 25) and where we would live (medium sized house in a subdivision) and that was how it was going to be.

Guess what? That was not according to the will of the Lord.

My husband is the most amazing man in the world and he is seriously my other and better half. He has a beard and is not a returned missionary. He is a convert to the church. I got married at 21. I am now 28 and my second child is 5 months old. We are currently building a house around other houses, but it is not in a subdivision and there is a beautiful view in all directions. I could not have asked for a better life, a better husband, or better kids.

If I could write a letter to my younger self, I would try and tell her to just let it go and trust in the Lord. I would get so worked up and frustrated at times when things didn’t happen the way that I wanted them to and when I wanted them to happen. I would get frustrated going through trials thinking that all was lost and I was never going to ‘get there’ even though I didn’t know where ‘there’ was.

Now that I’m past all that I had ‘planned’, I am enjoying life according to the will of the Lord and trying more and more every day to listen to the still small voice on what I need to be doing and where I need to be to help others.

When we live as best as we can according to the will of the Lord, we will be happier and more at peace with our decisions in life. I know that I certainly am!

  • I think that times I have told Heavenly Father my plans He has likely laughed out loud. 🙂 I love this. You are so right that the plan He has for us is FAR better than the plans we make for ourselves.
