Book of Mormon: Day 126: Recording in the kingdom

Today’s Reading: Mosiah 6

And now, king Benjamin thought it was expedient, after having finished speaking to the people, that he should take the names of all those who had entered into a covenant with God to keep his commandments.

I don’t know if you noticed, honestly it’s the first time I have ever consciously noticed this myself.
At the beginning of the Sunday session of Conference earlier this month, after the sustaining of the apostles they began with an official reporting of the church and it’s earthly standings.
Why?

Because the Lord’s house is a house of order.

King Benjamin knew and understood this, and as he ended his sermon he took a record of all of the people who had entered into a covenant with the Lord, to keep his commandments. How comforting and confirming it is to see and hear of a prophet of old taking a record of the Lord’s church here on the earth. I personally love that this small and seemingly trivial piece of happenings was not small and trivial at all to the Lord. It was and is of great importance. So much so, that it lives on in our scriptures and in our established gospel today.
We are commanded to return, and report.

I find myself doing all sorts of reporting these days.
As a mother I report to my children their good deeds for the day, their follies, and items to work on for the next days and weeks.
I report to my husband and family our expenses, our upcoming events and happenings along with a myriad of other items.
As an employee I report to my teams new and upcoming information, timelines, changes, standards, and expectations.
And most importantly, as a daughter of God I report my sincere gratitude and pleadings with the Lord for my family and loved ones.

We are commanded to return, and report.
I challenge you to focus on your report to the Lord in your prayers this week. I hope it will give you greater insight into His hand in your life.
