Book of Mormon: Day 120: Believe in God’s Wisdom

Today’s Reading: Mosiah 4:1-9

9 Believe in God; believe that he is, and that he created all things, both in heaven and in earth; believe that he has all wisdom, and all power, both in heaven and in earth; believe that man doth not comprehend all the things which the Lord can comprehend.

“Your Heavenly Father is trusting you. And He asks that you trust Him too.”

These were the words given to a sweet sister missionary through a priesthood blessing. She had been struggling and asked her district leader for a blessing of encouragement. The blessing wasn’t for me, but I remember hearing that sentence and feeling it go straight to my heart.

It was then I realized that I’ve had times in my life (all too often) that I wholeheartedly believed in God’s existence, but struggled to trust in his wisdom and power.

I’ve always believed He was there, and that He knew me. But when trials come and I’m doubting myself, it’s almost as if I say to Heavenly Father, “Now, are you sure you can help me with this? Do you really think I’ll be okay?”

I think of Peter walking on water, having enough trust in Christ to jump out of the boat and walk on the water. It wasn’t until Peter doubted in Christ that he began to sink.

Putting your trust in someone else, especially with your own life, is terrifying. But as King Benjamin taught, our Heavenly Father knows it all. He knows the ins and outs of our challenges before we are even aware of it’s existence. He has all power and all knowledge.

Trusting Heavenly Father’s knowledge and power offers us an incredible amount of peace and strength. When we trust in what He knows, we no longer have to doubt or wonder. When we trust in His power, we can know it really will be okay.

Our trust in Him will grow as we deepen our love and knowledge of the scriptures, pray earnestly, and follow the promptings of the Holy Ghost.

By putting your trust in Him, you’ll be amazed to find more ways that he trusts in you.

  • I have often found myself struggling with trust. Trusting others, trusting the Lord….even trusting myself! Much of this stems from childhood trauma, where my foundations of trust were broken down. I didn’t make the connection between those two concepts until I was in the thick of raising a family, and it made me realize how important it is that we give our children a good foundation of trust within the walls of our homes. I wish that I had learned this sooner. The trust that our kids form with us will help shape their relationship with Deity. Parenting is such a hard thing, but I’m learning more and more to separate the “fluff” of parenting (5 course meals, spotless home, activities calendar full) to the core of parenting. (building trusting relationships, listening, accepting children for exactly who they are) I’m far from perfect but thought maybe this idea planted in a young mom’s heart might help her not make some of the mistakes I did. A child is more likely to trust Heavenly parents when they have found a safe place to land, and built a trust in earthly parents.
