Book of Mormon: Day 110: Your Whole Soul

Today’s Reading:  Omni 1:16-30

26 And now, my beloved brethren, I would that ye should come unto Christ, who is the Holy One of Israel, and partake of his salvation, and the power of his redemption. Yea, come unto him, and offer your whole souls as an offering unto him, and continue in fasting and praying, and endure to the end; and as the Lord liveth ye will be saved.

If you look in the footnotes of verse 26, specifically footnote “b” next to the word “offer” you will find two words:  Commitment and Self-Sacrifice.  Two words that send shivers of anxiety down the spines of some and thrilling feelings of excitement for others.  For me, I fall into both categories.  I would say that 90% of the time, I am in the excitement camp.  Bring it on.  I am committed to Christ and everything that entails.  I love Him fiercely, with my whole heart, and want to serve Him daily.  The other 10% of the time, I let the adversary take control of my thoughts and emotions and I start feeling discouraged and worried that I am not measuring up; that I am not committed enough.  Not my favorite 10% of life.

So how do we “offer our whole souls” unto Christ?  How do we make sure that we are committed to Him and stay committed to Him through life’s discouraging moments?  We do this by making daily choices.  Minute to minute and hour to hour.  We “continue in fasting and praying” and “endure to the end.”  We marinate ourselves in the gospel of Jesus Christ and we keep the covenants we have made with Him.

I love the definition of the word “committed.”

COM·MIT·TED
kəˈmidəd/
adjective
  1. feeling dedication and loyalty to a cause, activity, or job; wholeheartedly dedicated.

Those two words- WHOLEHEARTEDLY DEDICATED.  Wow.  Talk about packing a punch.  Think about those two words for a minute in relation to your commitment to the Savior.  Are you in?  Is your whole heart and soul in?  Because, guess what?  His is.  Our Savior is WHOLEHEARTEDLY DEDICATED to you.  He is committed to you through the sacrifice of His life.  His life!  That is the ultimate example of being wholeheartedly dedicated.  Are you that committed?  Are you willing to offer your whole soul to Him?  Are you willing to let Him help you become the person He knows you can be?

wholeheartedly serve
