Book of Mormon: Day 100: He Wept

Today’s Reading: Jacob 5:20-46

41 And it came to pass that the Lord of the vineyard wept, and said unto the servant: What could I have done more for my vineyard?

The Lord wept. Just let that sink in for a minute. He wept over His vineyard. He weeps over us. Our God is not a hard-hearted God, He is not a cruel God, He is not an uncaring God. He is a God that weeps over each and every one of His children. He is a God that toils tirelessly for the good of His children. He is a God that sent His Beloved Son to die, that all of His children might be saved. He is a God of love. And He is The God.

I hope today as we continue reading this wonderful allegory that, if nothing else, we will be able to see more clearly the love God that has for His children. Indeed, He will never push us away, He is always there with an outstretched hand, ready to help and succor and shower us with blessings. He is constantly engaged in our lives because He loves us more than we can ever comprehend in this life. As Elder Holland has taught:

After digging and dunging, watering and weeding, trimming, pruning, transplanting, and grafting, the great Lord of the vineyard throws down his spade and his pruning shears and weeps, crying out to any who would listen, “What could I have done more for my vineyard?” What an indelible image of God’s engagement in our lives! What anguish in a parent when His children do not choose Him nor “the gospel of God” He sent! How easy to love someone who so singularly loves us!

Yes, He is our parent. He anguishes over us, He toils over us, He cries over us.

Let us reach out and grab His hand. Let us love Him as He loves us.

Let us follow Him.
