Book of Mormon: Day 64: But the Son of Righteousness shall appear unto them…and they shall have peace with him

Today’s Reading:  2 Nephi 26:1-16

But the Son of Righteousness shall appear unto them; and he shall heal them, and they shall have peace with him, until three generations shall have passed away, and many of the fourth generation shall have passed away in righteousness.

I’m not sure how you feel about it, but I cannot wait until my Savior returns again and brings with Him healing and peace.  Every time I get dampened by the mists of darkness, walk past the muddy waters, or hear the vile voices from the spacious building I think – I am READY!  But, that beautiful day is not today, so how are we to find peace today in this ever increasingly evil world?  Is it even possible?

Yes!  Peace is a precious and sustaining gift given freely by our loving Savior to all who listen, obey, and turn their hearts heavenward.  Filling our hearts and minds with the words of the scriptures, obediently following our Savior’s example, and submitting our ever present and pressing wants and needs over to the will of the Father will bring a sense of much needed peace into our lives.  I have found that this last part, submission of our wills, can often prove to be the trickiest of them all.  It seems to be that when life all of sudden comes unglued or that we find ourselves in the midst of unplanned pain or change, we are often tempted to ask the whys and the whats and the when questions.  This is just NOT what we had planned!  But with time, we usually end up seeing the wisdom in all that pain and change and we can say that we are grateful for our trials.

My message today is that finding PEACE in today comes with being able to trust in the plan of our lives TODAY and not waiting for the passage of time to teach us what we could learn amidst our trials.  I’ll share with you what I tell myself when something unexpected happens, I say, “This must be exactly what I need or else it would be different!  I trust in Heavenly Father’s plan for me, I have faith in my Savior to see me through.  I choose peace.”  This little mantra has helped me on so many occasions to refocus and bring my attention back to the fact that our God is omnipotent, omniscient and omniloving.  He has designed the perfect path of refining, lessons, and loving instruction for each of us.  I have trust in the plan.

Pres. Howard W. Hunter describes it beautifully:

“Indifference to the Savior or failure to keep the commandments of God brings about insecurity, inner turmoil, and contention. These are the opposite of peace. Peace can come to an individual only by an unconditional surrender—surrender to him who is the Prince of peace, who has the power to confer peace.”

Words cannot describe the gratitude that I hold in my heart for my Savior and peace giver.  May we all fill our journey with His peace that “passeth all understanding”.  Love and blessings for your day!

  • Loved the imagery, ” Every time I get dampened by the mists of darkness, walk past the muddy waters, or hear the vile voices from the spacious building I think – I am READY! But, that beautiful day is not today, so how are we to find peace today in this ever increasingly evil world? ” Just beautiful!
