Book of Mormon: Day 22: The Key is Faith

Today’s Reading:  1 Nephi 12:1-15

1 Nephi 12:11

11 “…These are made white in the blood of the Lamb, because of their faith in him.”

Faith is a powerful thing.  It can part seas, move mountains, and heal diseases.  But one of the most important things that faith can do is cleanse us from sin.  In this block of scriptures, the concept of having our sins washed away and our garments made clean is mentioned two times.  In both of those instances, it also says that having faith in the Lord Jesus Christ is key to this cleansing process.

The Atonement of Jesus Christ is for everyone to use.  And now, a question for you.  Do you use it?  Do you understand the power that comes through it?  The more I study the Atonement, the more I see that I know nothing about it’s capabilities and what it really means.  It is something that, at least for me, I have had to learn about in itty bitty baby steps.  But it is so important that we do learn about it.  In Tad R. Callister’s book, The Infinite Atonement, he says this…

BECAUSE THE ATONEMENT IS AT THE HEART AND CORE OF ALL WE DO, IT IS VITAL THAT WE STUDY IT, UNDERSTAND IT, AND APPLY IT.

In order to study, understand, and apply the Atonement in our own lives, we first have to exercise faith in our Savior.  Faith is the key for unlocking the power and force that the Atonement can be in your life.

When I think about faith, I feel like it’s something that should be so simple.  However, I know at times I make it much more complicated then it needs to be.  Faith is not complicated for a little child, so why do we- as adults- make it so terribly difficult sometimes?  We have been instructed, in the scriptures, to become as little children.  (Matt. 18:3 & Mosiah 3:19)  But sometimes the “adult” in us gets in the way and we forget.  We forget to be humble, meek, patient, and…full of faith.  We forget that faith can help us part the stormy seas in our lives, cross the treacherous mountain ranges, and aid us in healing our broken hearts.

I am grateful for the gift of faith in my life.  I know that as I make a conscious effort to choose to believe, to seek for the truth, and hold on to my faith in Jesus Christ, I will be made clean through Him and I will be able to withstand whatever comes my way.
