Book of Mormon: Day 21: Harken to the word of God

Today’s Reading: 1 Nephi 15:19-36

24 And I said unto them that it was the word of God; and whoso would hearken unto the word of God, and would hold fast unto it, they would never perish; neither could the temptations and the fiery darts of the adversary overpower them unto blindness, to lead them away to destruction.

Happy Sabbath sweet sisters. I hope your days of rest and spiritual feeding have been full and meaningful to you and yours. I was sitting in Sunday school enjoying today’s lesson and pondering the plain and precious truths that are taught in the Book of Mormon. How wonderful it really is to know that the Lord laid this book up to bring it forth in its planeness to help us here and now. That knowledge is always so comforting to me, to know just how un-perverted this book truly is. How it was written by the Lord’s prophets, hid away and then translated by a prophet. From one mouth piece of the Lord to another, without the muddying of un-righteous men making alterations along the way.

Lehi’s vision and Nephi’s interpretation of the vision of the Tree of Life paint such a pure and beautiful picture for us of the plan of salvation. Hold to the rod. Don’t ever let it go. And you will be blessed to taste the sweetest of sweet fruit, the likes of which you have never tasted before.

We worked on personalizing that message in class today. What does it mean here and now to taste the sweetest of all sweet fruit, the likes of which you have never tasted before? For me, it means to find lasting joy in the here and now. To know that this gospel brings true peace to my heart and soul and to trust that God has a plan for me, that I know not of, that is sweeter than anything I can imagine. I only need to hold to the rod, and be faithful in word and deed.

This thought that Elder Pearson shared in the April 2015 General Conference is so beautiful to me:

As we yield our hearts to God, the Holy Ghost changes our very natures, we become deeply converted unto the Lord, and we no longer seek the spacious building.
