Book of Mormon: Day 20: Righteous Investigation

Today’s Reading:  1 Nephi 12: 16-18, 15: 1-19

1 Nephi 15:8

8  And I said unto them:  Have ye inquired of the Lord?

One of the definitions of “inquired” is, “to investigate or look into.”  To me, this indicates that inquiring of the Lord may require a little more than simply just asking and hurrying off to the next thing.  We may need to stop and take time to “righteously investigate” for the answers we seek.  Just as a detective combs through evidence at a crime scene, we too are required to search diligently among the scriptures and words of the prophets- in combination with fasting and prayer- in order for us to find the answers of truth that we seek.  Sometimes those answers come quickly, most times they do not.  But there is a formula found in 1 Nephi 15:11 that, if followed, will bring you the answers you seek.

IF YE WILL NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS, AND ASK ME IN FAITH, BELIEVING THAT YE SHALL RECEIVE, WITH DILIGENCE IN KEEPING MY COMMANDMENTS, SURELY THESE THINGS SHALL BE MADE KNOWN UNTO YOU.

In the world of mathematics there are formulas that need to be followed in exactness in order to achieve the desired results.  I firmly believe that if we follow this formula of righteous investigation, the answers of truth that we seek will be revealed to us in the manner in which God sees fit for us as individuals.  Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, is the way, the truth, and the life, and it is only through Him that we will be able to come unto the Father. (John 14:6)  President Nelson of the Quorum of the 12 Apostles recently stated, “As helpful as Google, Twitter, and Facebook may seem, they simply do not provide answers to your most important questions.”

AS WE COME TO THE FEET OF OUR SAVIOR~

*With a broken and willing heart

*Asking in Faith

*Believing that we will receive answers

(even, and especially, if those answers are not what we expected)

*And as we diligently keep the commandments

We will find the answers that we seek to all of the important questions that we ask.
