Advent: Day Seventeen: God Is My Salvation

Isaiah 12:2-5

2 Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the Lord JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.

3 Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation.

4 And in that day shall ye say, Praise the Lord, call upon his name, declare his doings among the people, make mention that his name is exalted.

5 Sing unto the Lord; for he hath done excellent things: this is known in all the earth.

I’ve often thought about the difference between “joy” and “happiness”. To me, happiness is fleeting, but joy? Joy is a deep, rich, long-lasting emotion. Joy is what we feel as we hold our newborn baby in the still of night. Joy is what we feel as we gaze into our spouse’s eyes. Joy is what we feel when we’re surrounded by loved ones. Joy is what we feel when we ponder the Savior’s love for us.

Our Savior is the cause of all of our joy. He has given us all things, including the gift of eternal life and eternal families. As the above scripture states, He is our salvation, He is our strength, and He has done excellent things. It is only through Him that we can be redeemed and delivered from sin. Because of that, I am filled with joy. Because of Him, I am filled with praise and thanksgiving.

Because a tiny babe was born over 2000 years ago on the other side of the world, we can be saved.

Joy to the World, indeed!
