1 Timothy 4:12
12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
As I prayerfully thought about our family home evening lesson for the week, the though of blessing bags entered my mind and would not leave. These bags were introduced to me over a year ago by a sister in the ward, and the idea is such a good one I felt the need to shout this from the rooftops.
The principle
In short, a blessing bag is a ziplock bag filled with items for those who are in need. Once assembled these bags are perfect grab and give items when you’re stopped at a light, at the freeway exit, or even when getting out of your car and are near someone in need. There is no set amount of items or specific items to be used, in fact, I let the spirit guide me to what we should put in our bags this time of year and I was led to:
- Toothbrush
- Toothpaste
- Warm gloves
- Deodorant
- Hair gel
- Tissues
- Ensure, protein and full meal drink
- And, An Apple
We made six blessing bags in total and placed three in each of our family vehicles. While the kiddos may not be in the car with us when they get handed out the story we can bring home and share with them, along with the scripture in Matthew 5:16 will certainly help them feel the spirit and understand the part they played in being a blessing to others.
Matthew 5:16
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
Oh how wonderful it is the the Lord sends us, his servants, to help and assist his children. I urge you to find ways in your homes and communities to let your light shine and be an example of the Savior this week.

Wife to Eric. Mom to Quinn. And Twins Avery & Rhys. I believe that I am a child of God. Who loves me & I love him. I believe in date nights to the Temple. To the movies. Out to dinner and especially long hikes.
Wednesday’s are my fave day of the week because, ‘it’s Wednesday David’. Red is simply the best color. And black takes a close second.
This is such a sweet idea, Kelly! Brett and I were JUST talking about this over the weekend!
I did this last year and I loved it. I made it all the way to keeping them in my car, but I was always too scared to give them out. I don’t know why!!
I absolutely love this idea! I think I want to start doing this!
