Advent: Day Sixteen: A Child is Born

Isaiah 9:6–7

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.

One of the many beauties of the birth of the Savior is that it ushered in hope for eternal joy for all mankind. A sweet infant born in a manger who would grow up to atone for the sins of each and every one of us. It’s an incredibly powerful message.

The humble birth of Jesus Christ is a perfect reminder of what the atonement can lead us to in our lives.  We can all be taken from lowly means and exalted, living even as our Savior does now with our Heavenly Father.

Because of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, we know that we are here that we might have joy both here on earth and forever.  Because a sweet child was born, we might hold on to all we hold dear into eternities.  Because he was born, of miraculous means, we may each experience daily miracles – love, forgiveness, hope, happiness – regardless of our present situations.

I know that because of the Savior, we are blessed with the greatest joys we experience here on earth. We can gain and strengthen a personal relationship with an omnipotent Father in Heaven. We can experience true love that never ends.  We can feel the guidance of the Spirt, to comfort us and succor us.  We can find courage to be strengthened by our trials and push on, seeking our brother, Jesus Christ.

These verses highlight some of the names we know the Savior by, but there are so many more.  What names for Jesus Christ have brought you joy?
