Advent: Day Three: We worship the Father

Jacob 4:4-5

For, for this intent have we written these things, that they may know that we knew of Christ, and we had a hope of his glory many hundred years before his coming; and not only we ourselves had a hope of his glory, but also all the holy prophets which were before us.

Behold, they believed in Christ and worshiped the Father in his name, and also we worship the Father in his name. And for this intent we keep the law of Moses, it pointing our souls to him; and for this cause it is sanctified unto us for righteousness, even as it was accounted unto Abraham in the wilderness to be obedient unto the commands of God in offering up his son Isaac, which is a similitude of God and his Only Begotten Son.

It it truly amazing to have the Book of Mormon, another testimony of Jesus Christ to stand side-by-side with the Holy Bible. Such amazing witnesses and testimonies of Christ’s mission, his coming to the earth and his ministry. It gives me goosebumps to read the accounts of these witnesses and know that they were in the presence of our Lord and Savior and that they did everything in their power to stand as a witness here on this earth-including the passing of their knowledge and understandings to us in these books.

Jacob was such a strong witness and missionary for the Lord. As Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles put Jacob’s intent into perspective:

“Jacob seems to have been particularly committed to presenting the doctrine of Christ. Given the amount of space he gave to his witness of the Savior’s atonement, Jacob clearly considered this basic doctrine the most sacred of teachings and the greatest of revelations.

Jacob’s writing in Chapter 5, Verse 5 speaking on following the law of Moses ‘it pointing our souls to him;..’ gives perfect reference to the atonement and how the peoples were being prepared for Christ’s sacrifice. With great faith, and hope that their Lord would come to save them.

It is my joy in this life to worship the Father in his name, and to know that He is always with me. He is at the helm of my ship and without Him I am lost.

These things I say and leave with you, in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
